Letter to the Editor 6/29/2025: Wyoming’s school voucher law is unconstitutional
Dear Casper, I am writing as a concerned citizen of Wyoming and parent of a child in public school. In the 2025 legislative session, House Bill 199 passed. This bill was sponsored by Ocean Andrew. HB199, or the Wyoming Freedom Scholarship Act, gives $7,000 per child to any family that chooses not to have their child or children in public school. This money can then be used for homeschooling curriculum or to pay tuition at private schools, even parochial schools. While I respe

Letter to the Editor 7/13/25: More than books: Public library plays vital role in community life
Dear Casper, I am writing to you today in support of libraries. Specifically, I am writing in support of public libraries. As a bibliophile it is easy to look at a library and only see the books. The library is a portal into multiple worlds, perspectives, and vast vocabularies and languages. When a person enters the Natrona County Public Library they are greeted with books, sure, but there is so much more. In the library there are computers with free internet. That’s right, r

Letter To the Editor 11/16/2025: Quit Playing Jenga With Our Public Education System
Dear editor: Have you ever played Jenga? Most folks have. It is a game of physical dexterity and mental strategy. Players take turns taking wooden blocks out of the tower of wooden pieces. There are 54 pieces. The goal is to be the last player to successfully remove a block without causing the tower to fall. Now, consider this in relation to what the Wyoming State Legislature is doing to public education. Each bad bill that they passed in the 2025 legislative session is a bl

Letter to the Editor 1/27/2026 Wyoming should uphold the definition of health care that includes abortion.
Dear Casper, Abortion is an incredibly charged topic here in Wyoming and across the country. Recently, the Wyoming Supreme Court ruled that abortion is health care. In my opinion, this ruling is spot on. Now, we are seeing the Wyoming Attorney General challenge the ruling, and we have heard the governor call on the legislature for a constitutional amendment. In light of this, we need to define health care. The definition of health care, according to Merriam-Webster, is “effor

Letter to the Editor: 2/9/2026 Maternity deserts, Medicaid cuts a reality for Wyoming mothers
Dear Casper, Wyoming legislators obsess over protecting the unborn while gutting nearly every support system for children who are already here. They are planting seeds and then refusing to tend to them. In October of 2025, the Joint Labor, Health, and Social Services Committee voted against increasing Medicaid reimbursement rates for obstetricians. In Wyoming, one in three births is covered by Medicaid. In the past five years, four Wyoming hospitals have shuttered their Lab
